In my own way, I am trying to lay all of this out as clearly as possible.
My works in charcoal and oil paint faithfully depict their subject, and abstractive elements of blurring, cropping, or inclusion of text both provide information as well as shroud it. I seek to balance these modes of realism and abstraction in order to examine the relationship between honesty and memory.
My drawings and paintings are my own pursuit of truth telling and are thus deeply informed by my interpersonal connections, my surroundings in the American south, and my experience as a woman. Still, each piece toes the line of specificity and ambiguity, allowing room for speculation and connection.
